Purpose
Recovery is beautiful is all about HOPE and putting the needs of individuals and families in need of mental health and addiction services first. As a person in long-term recovery, celebrating, recognizing, and sharing my recovery is important. It is important to me personally, as I know what it’s like to be in the throes of addiction, anxiety, and depression. By sharing and celebrating my recovery journey, I not only strengthen my own recovery, I might be able to help others see that there is HOPE. HOPE that recovery is not only possible but desirable, and that Treatment Works and People Recover!
Recovery can be hard. It is a journey that takes time, and while it may not always seem beautiful, once you get to a point in life where you can start to believe in yourself and see that there is HOPE for a better life – recovery really does start to become beautiful.
We developed the Recovery IS Beautiful initiative to help others, we want to make sure that we are all focused on recovery and what that means, and we want to Change the Conversation. We want everyone to know and understand that:
1. Mental illness and addiction - are illnesses,
2. Mental illness and addiction can be treated – Treatment Works and People Recover, and
3. Recovery is to be celebrated – the more we normalize recovery the more we eradicate stigma.
I hope that as you think about recovery whether it be for yourself or for a friend or family member, you remember that hope is real, treatment does work, people do recover, and Recovery IS Beautiful!
Take care and stay well!
